About me

I’m a founder and a managing partner of Mission Point Press, a journalist, and longtime book publisher who has produced more than 650 book titles in my career on topics ranging from regional history to entertainment, art, architecture, travel, crime, and the craft of quilting.

Because of my background, I’m heavily schooled in writing and editing non-fiction. But I have experience with fiction as well.

For the record:

My family: My best half, Cindy, and I are the very proud parents of daughter Meghan, who lives and works in Houston, and son Zach, who lives and works in Kansas City. I also love being a grandpa to Orion and Arbor. And yeah, I love dogs—Ginger and Sadie,

Education: I hold a master’s degree in business administration from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, and a bachelor’s in journalism from the University of Illinois.

Work history: I was the business editor at the Springfield (Illinois) Journal-Register, editor of
Corporate Report Wisconsin, and business editor at The Kansas City Star. In 2000, The Kansas City Star gave me the starry title of Manager of Strategic Business Development to develop niche revenue opportunities for the newspaper, including book publishing and retailing.

In 2004, I was named publisher of Kansas City Star Books, the newspaper’s book-publishing division that resulted. Star Books operated three imprints under my direction—Kansas City Star Books, Kansas City Star Quilts and Rockhill Books—until January 2015.

Mission Point Press was launched in 2015 and continues to grow in size and influence as a regional and national book publisher. If you are interested in knowing more about MPP’s services, contact the company’s general manager, Jen Wahi, at jen@missionpointpress.com.

Where we live

My wife Cindy and I live on Chandler Lake and play in the Traverse City, Michigan, area amid countless other lakes, rivers, bountiful stands of trees, and a host of Nature’s critters.

My eyes would sometimes roll when a friend would claim their neck of the woods was God’s Country. But I just have to say that up here it is.

But don’t tell anyone. We’re trying to keep it a secret.
